About the ReserveTalamanca Reserve is much more than an ecotourism destination: it is the result of decades of dedicated work to restoring and protecting a unique ecosystem in Costa Rica. Located within the Chirripó Premontane biological corridor and adjacent to Chirripó National Park, our reserve is home to more than 1,600 hectares of primary and secondary cloud forest.
Today, we remain a family-run Costa Rican reserve, committed to environmental education, responsible birdwatching, and local development. We have recorded more than 300 bird species in just ten months, reinforcing our focus on bird conservation and the design of gardens and experiences that encourage their presence.
Every step we take is guided by a deep respect for nature. We work alongside the community, generate local employment, and open our doors with the conviction that every visitor can also become a guardian of this forest.
Over the years, we've planted thousands of native trees and restored essential wildlife habitats. Little by little, the birds returned, the trails flourished, and the forest breathed again.
In 2005, we officially opened our doors to visitors, inviting people from all over the world to discover this corner of biodiversity. Since then, we've welcomed naturalists, hikers, photographers, birdwatchers, and families looking to disconnect and reconnect. It all began with a change of vision. The lands that now make up the reserve were once used for livestock and agriculture, which led to significant deforestation. But in 1988, committed to the environment, we decided to take action: we purchased the land and began a process of restoration and reforestation that continues to this day. Trails, gardens, cabins, and a restaurant were built, but always with respect for the environment and the firm intention of restoring the forest's natural balance.
